The Lake

We are working on our lake to keep it clean before it becomes polluted like some of the other lakes in Missouri. That is why there is so much in the media, especially the Kansas City Star and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. We are very positive about the things that are happening with Table Rock Lake. When the newspapers say things, they apparently are not familiar with the lake. Other than the references to the KC Star and St. Louis Post-Dispatch above, we will not identify any other newspapers. These things have been verified as being in a newspaper:

An Illinois newspaper, at the time of the low lake level (lowest in 25 years) actually reported that ‘they’ were draining the entire lake. This was confirmed through a local resident who’s brother called to inquire if he had time to fish before it was drained!

A Missouri newspaper stated ‘Lake Table Rock is a…’ They are obviously very familiar with Table Rock Lake.

In March of 2000 another Missouri newspaper reported that the ‘fish kill’ was no big deal; in April of 2000 the same paper reported there were ‘no more fish available’ to catch!

One of the reasons the people who live around and take care of our lake act on the negatives is because Table Rock Lake is owned by the Corps of Engineers not electric companies like some of the other lakes in Missouri. They help us keep our lake clean. In April of ’00, responding to the ‘negative’ of low water levels, the Corps hired a trash service to remove and dispose of things residents and the Corps had removed from the lake, taking advantage of the low water. Hundreds of other residents used their own trash service. This trash was primarily composed of things people no longer wanted: tires, bottles, cans (soda and beer), fishing line. Of course there was a good amount of things people may have wanted: sunglasses, fishing poles, reels, tackle boxes, keys, etc. A lot of people have lived on this lake all of their lives and want to make this an issue, so that we can act now, before we have the problems of the other lakes in Missouri. We want our lake to stay clean and healthy not only for you, our customers, but also for our families.

The people who live around the lake take care of it. For all the bashing that the Corps of Engineers takes, they do a good job of protecting the lake, they ‘own’ it. Some of the other Missouri lakes aren’t that lucky! Everyone helps to keep Table Rock clean.
